He Slept Through the Night!

Yeah! Last night Brody went to sleep around 9 in his swing. I took him out of it at 10 b/c i was going to bed. I gave him the last oz or so he had in his bottle he ate at 9 and we went to sleep. I woke up to him fussing and when i opened my eyes it was starting to get light out! I looked at the clock and it was 5:45! Wooo hoo! So i took him out in the living room and made him a bottle and then i hear Carter waking up(ughhhh)....Brody went back to sleep in his swing until 9 and Carter and i napped on the couch til about 8. So it would have been great if Carter didn't wake up so early, but oh well. I remember when we laid down in bed last night i whispered to Brody "please don't wake up til 5 or 6" and apparently he listened. ;)

SWEET Deal and some New Pics

Today i went to the grocery store to get some formula and wipes and they had Brody's brand (Similac Sensitive) concentrate cans for $1.00!!! I took every one off the shelf, 11 total. Big sigh of relief because funds are really really tight right now. We're going to go to the WIC office next week and see if we qualify. We do on weeks that Brad doesn't work overtime so luckily the last 3 pay stubs don't have any overtime on them so i'm crossing my fingers that we qualify! Right now with this economy and me not working(daycare would void any money i bring in), any little bit will help and i'm not too proud to get help if we need it. Anywho, i also have some new cute pics of the boys.

What a Day

This morning i had to take both boys to the doctor. Carter had his 3 year check-up and Brody's 2 month check-up and shots. I had my mom go with me and thank God i did because wow it was definitely hectic! First of all, i wanted to talk to the doctor about the vaccinations because i have been feeling really uneasy about giving all of them at one time to Brody. So the nurse gave me some info sheets to look at and the pediatrician took her time coming in the room. By the time she came in, Carter had had enough! He was just so bored and tired of waiting. He could not sit still and kept turning the light on and off, trying to open the door and escape, dumping crayons on the floor, etc. Finally, the ped. came in. When she came in, Carter was in time out because he hit Brody on the head. He was screaming at the top of his lungs! After his time out, my mom took him back out to the kids waiting room while the ped. looked over Brody and answered my questions. Then while the nurse came back in to give Brody his shots, she went in another room with my mom and Carter to give him his physical. He had pinched his hand on the flusher in the bathroom right before the physical and screamed the entire time. Brody was also crying because he just got his shots. Ugh..what a morning. I'm just so glad i scheduled early in the morning and got it over with. In all the madness and insanity, i forgot to write down the boys' stats. I remember that Brody is 12ish lbs and 23 1/4 in. Carter is 35 lbs and i think she said 34 or 36 in. Bad mommy i know! Anyways, i'm just glad it is all over! I'm definitely getting a sitter for Carter when i have to take Brody for his 4 month check-up!

Do You Think They Look Alike?

I seem to be having a lot of people tell me that Brody looks just like Carter. I honestly don't see it at all. I feel like if i hadn't seen him come out of me and watch them put on the ID bracelets on him in the delivery room (and the fact that he was the only baby in the nursery the whole time we were there) that he was not my baby! So i'll put a couple of pics up here of both boys and see if anyone sees any similarities.

Brody 7 weeks old:
Carter had TONS of hair when he was born and Brody doesn't have much at all. Carter's eyes were darker and Brody's are still bright blue. I'm not sure if his will change to brown or not.

One Month Old

I can't believe Brody is already one month old today. Actually, it feels like so much longer than one month. The past couple nights have been a little better sleeping wise. Last night we slept from 11-3:45 and then went back to sleep around 4:30 or so and then got back up at 6ish, back down at 6:30 and up again at around 8. He is starting to smile more now and a couple days ago he started cooing. It's so cute. I can't wait for him to start the big smiles and laughs. Carter loves holding him and Brody's starting to tolerate letting him for a little bit. He's starting to fit into his 0-3 month clothes and is pretty much grown out of newborn diapers but i'm trying to use up my last pack of them so i'm squeezing him into them. :)

St. Patrick's Day (edited with Carter's pic)

Well, i'm not Irish but my name is and if there is any day that allows me to dress myself and the kids up, i'll take it! So here are some pics. I feel like such a bad mom though, because Carter went with my mother in law all day and i haven't gotten one of him yet...hopefully he didn't get his shirt all ruined and i can take one of him when he gets home. Me and Brody had a photo shoot though!

Brody's Two Week Appt

Brody had his two week check-up this morning. He is now up to 8lbs even. He was 7lbs 3 oz at 4 days old so he gained 13 oz in 11 days. At his 4 day check-up the doctor said she would like to see a gain of an ounce a day by this check-up so he actually surpassed that! That makes me feel so good because my body is able to fully nourish him! It's kind of funny though because Brody is still 3oz lighter at 2 weeks old than Carter was at birth! The doctor said he looks great and the next time we go back will be for his 2 month appointment, which will also be Carter's 3 year appointment. That should be interesting taking both boys at the same time, plus Brody will need shots. Ahhh! Oh, and just because it is so cute, here is a new picture of Brody. I swear i was getting smiles the other day, and here is what i was able to catch on camera.

I just thought this one was cute:

This was after his first bath-he found his thumb!

How It's Going

So far having 2 kids isn't really as hard as i thought it would be. First off, i feel great! I haven't really been sore at all. I'm definitely not as sore as i was with Carter. I remember it took about 2 weeks before i really started feeling better "down there" with him. I am not as tired as i thought i would be. The past couple nights we've been going down for the night around 10 or 11, waking up at 2:30, nurse and back to sleep until around 4:30 or 5, nurse and back to sleep until around 7. Definitely not as much sleep as i'd like but i'm not complaining because for the most part he falls right back to sleep after eating. He had his first doctor appointment yesterday and is gaining his weight back. He left the hospital at 7lbs 1oz and at his appointment he weighed 7lbs 3oz. It is such a relief because i was so worried he wasn't getting enough to eat. Carter is adjusting well, he loves to hold and kiss him. He gets jealous sometimes that i can't do as much with him as i used to because i'm pretty much constantly nursing Brody during the day but he's getting better. I am finding that evenings are a little hard for me. It seems like that's when my emotions go crazy. I cry for no reason, or for stupid reasons. I hope it's just my hormones trying to balance out and it doesn't last long. I don't feel overwhelmed, i just get sad. Right now i don't feel like it's something i need to worry about but if it gets worse i will talk to my doctor about it. I'm thinking it's just a little of the baby blues. Well, enough of my ramble, i just thought i'd write a little about how it's going over here. Oh, and of course, here are a couple new pictures.

Brody's Birth Story

We went in at 5:30am to the hospital to be induced. I got all the paperwork filled out and went up to Labor and Delivery. I got changed into my gown and hooked up to the monitors and was started on an IV. I was still at 3cm when we got there. I was monitored for about an hour and then started pitocin at around 7am. By 8:30 i was in extreme pain and begging for some medicine. I was now at 4cm so i was able to get a spinal block. I got it at 8:45. I had some relief for about an hour and a half and then started to feel really painful contractions again. They started to get extremely painful and unbearable and by 10am i was begging for something else for the pain. The baby's heart rate kept dropping so the dr. said i couldn't get anything through an IV. Finally at 10:30 the dr. broke my water-i was 7-8cm. I started feeling like i needed to push soon after that. Now is when it gets a little fuzzy. I was in excruciating pain and feeling tons of pressure. I got checked again around 11 and was 9cm. I broke down and started crying and saying i couldn't do it anymore. I was just in way too much pain and i remember telling the doctor that i couldn't push. Brad went and got my mom and told her to come in the room and she helped try to calm me down. Finally they got me over on my back and i started pushing. I can't remember what time i started pushing. Once i figured out how to push correctly it was really quick. My mom said i pushed through only 3 contractions. Brody was born at 11:39am. My total labor was 4.5 hours!! He came out with his eyes wide open and was very alert. He started crying while he was still halfway out! I had an episiotomy and got to hold Brody while the doctor was sewing me up. Then he was weighed and measured and brought back to me. I nursed him right then and he latched on perfectly. He nursed for about 15 minutes on each side. He is such a sweet little baby and is absolutely perfect!

He's Finally Here!

Brody Elton Redfern was born at 11:39am on Monday, February 23rd. He weighed 7 lbs 9 oz and was 19 1/4 in long. He is absolutely perfect! The delivery was so much better than Carter's and i feel great! Well...my nipples KILL but other than that, i feel great. I'm still in shock that i was a week overdue and he was still smaller than Carter was, but my body is thankful! ;) I'll be back later to post the birth story.

This one is about half an hour after he was born:
